JAPANESE WASHI & TEXTILE TECHNIQUES: HALF-DAY COURSE
🇯🇵 Led by award-winning research and design studio DNJ Paper, in this half-day course participants will learn traditional Japanese textile techniques, before applying them to the creation of a piece of contemporary design by making a hand-stitched washi cushion.
The course is inspired by the NGV Kimono exhibition.
🇯🇵 WHAT TO EXPECT
In this hands-on course, DNJ Paper will introduce their practice and demonstrate how they draw on Japanese materials such as washi paper and traditional Japanese techniques like boro and sashiko stitching. Participants will learn the technique of momigami – a method of transforming washi into a fabric-like material – and use it to create their own hand-stitched washi cushion to take home.
Course enrolment includes all materials.
Suitable for all skill levels, no prior experience necessary.
